Oneprovider: Dedicated Server Intel Atom C2350 1TB 4GB RAM with $7.14

Hi guys, come back again with more review with a Dedicated server. Just bought about a week ago with less than $10 for a month. Oneprovider gave us with good price and with 1TB SATA disk drive. Not bad for a user who need backup server or even torrent server. Even it is only 4GB ram, but I think it is still acceptable for backup server purpose.

Pricing

Yes, you are not dreaming right now. The price is really cheap, and it is the most affordable dedicated server so far. With only $7.14 a month is not a good deal. At least this dedicated is a bit better than $7 openvz VPS so far.

General Speedtest

What you can expect from a dedicated server with 1Gbps connection port? Yes, for backup purpose server it is very important we run every single bakcup task to be done as soon as possible. Being said, a high connection transfer and unlimited transfer is needed.

Here is the test result :

Retrieving speedtest.net configuration...
Testing from ONLINE SAS (163.172.82.50)...
Retrieving speedtest.net server list...
Selecting best server based on ping...
Hosted by SFR SAS (Paris) [1.88 km]: 3.33 ms
Testing download speed................................................................................
Download: 813.88 Mbit/s
Testing upload speed................................................................................................
Upload: 685.01 Mbit/s

After several times test, I could say the result is quite same and it is around 800 Mbps download and 600~700 Mbps upload. Well, that’s good.

CPU Benchmark

Here is test result bencmark for current dedicated server. The first section showing is model CPU of server.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
CPU model            : Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU  C2350  @ 1.74GHz
Number of cores      : 2
CPU frequency        : 1745.554 MHz
Total size of Disk   : 910.2 GB (3.8 GB Used)
Total amount of Mem  : 3751 MB (194 MB Used)
Total amount of Swap : 2047 MB (5 MB Used)
System uptime        : 10 days, 22 hour 12 min
Load average         : 0.03, 0.08, 0.07
OS                   : CentOS 7.7.1908
Arch                 : x86_64 (64 Bit)
Kernel               : 3.10.0-1062.1.2.el7.x86_64
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I/O Benchmark

The second section comes with I/O or input output of dedicated server itself. To be honest, I am not really sure whether I should happy or NO for this result.

I/O speed(1st run)   : 22.9 MB/s
I/O speed(2nd run)   : 34.5 MB/s
I/O speed(3rd run)   : 33.8 MB/s
Average I/O speed    : 30.4 MB/s

But I am used to use SSD for my laptops, SSD for my server (vps linux) and used to see bunch of numerics SSD result. However, you can not expect too much for a dedicated under $10 a month. Thus, I believe this kind of server is purposed for backup. I would say, I am quite happy for this result.

Speedtest result regions

This is test speed result from some regions.

Node Name                       IPv4 address            Download Speed
CacheFly                        205.234.175.175         124MB/s
Linode, Tokyo2, JP              139.162.65.37           10.4MB/s
Linode, Singapore, SG           139.162.23.4            7.21MB/s
Linode, London, UK              176.58.107.39           100MB/s
Linode, Frankfurt, DE           139.162.130.8           105MB/s
Linode, Fremont, CA             50.116.14.9             14.4MB/s
Softlayer, Dallas, TX           173.192.68.18           12.1MB/s
Softlayer, Seattle, WA          67.228.112.250          10.2MB/s
Softlayer, Frankfurt, DE        159.122.69.4            61.5MB/s
Softlayer, Singapore, SG        119.81.28.170           7.56MB/s
Softlayer, HongKong, CN         119.81.130.170          6.57MB/s

The results is not very good, but when you start to use it, you can feel the speed is quite fast enough for the backup server. At least the throthled now within disk side.

Popularity

This seller called Oneprovider is one of reseller that sells kind of servers from all the worlds. It is available mostly from all countries! I am not sure how their marketing work flow is. But I am pretty sure they just made a contract, got special discount, and get small amount of perks. So they able to maximise the revenue selling.

If you notice, the paris node I just bought came from Online.net datacentre. It is owned by one of largest hosting company within Europe. They provide cheap servers but the one that sell from Oneprovider is cheaper than the original seller.

Summary

Though the price is cheap but the disk performance is not too good, but I can recommend this dedicated server for backup purpose. It is not recommended for production server with high IOPS demand.
